If you are hungry for a new and exciting dining experience in Sydney, then Barangaroo has to be high on your list of places to visit. The new urban development on the waterfront has brought together a wide variety of high-class restaurants which seemingly offer something for every style, taste and budget. With great public transport connections, including bus, train, ferry and water taxi, plenty of parking and lots of open space to walk or cycle, Barangaroo is set to become a popular destination with both residents and visitors alike.
Barangaroo is divided into three distinct areas encompassing the Barangaroo Reserve in the North, the residential, retail and recreational Central Barangaroo Project in the centre, and the inspiring collection of restaurants and eateries in the lanes of Barangaroo to the south. 12-Micron can seat 270 people but thanks to the cleverly designed interior and purpose-designed eating areas, it exudes an atmosphere of intimacy and relaxed elegance. Guests can move between different seating areas of the restaurant during a leisurely dining experience or perch on a bar stool for a quick bite.
Lovers of contemporary Australian cuisine will be drawn to the stylish interior design, the stunning views across the harbour and a selection of menus influenced by the Australian elements at 12-Micron. Put simply, 12-Micron offers the very best of Australia’s natural produce on a plate. Two-hat executive chef Justin Wise has designed menus which offer a variety of options from snacks to enjoy with drinks, to quick or leisurely lunch menus, beautifully balanced tasting menus and even a special dedicated dessert menu that can be enjoyed at the purpose-built dessert bar where you can watch the dishes being lovingly created.
As well as its award-winning chef and inspiring contemporary cuisine, 12-Micron has also been nominated for several design awards thanks to its elegant and subtle interior. Situated on the second level of a modern tower block building, with floor to ceiling glass windows, 12-Micron nevertheless draws on the colours, tones and textures of the Australian bush. With stone floors, muted colours and bark-like textures, the restaurant is beautifully realised, subtle and elegantly luxurious. Executive chef Justin Wise adds: “The 12-Micron name is inspired by our ethos to celebrate Australian produce, taking the best ingredients and refining those into an evolving menu of dishes. Its namesake is the rare and coveted fine 12-micron wool fibre which, much like an ingredient in the kitchen, is refined into a beautiful garment”.
This stunning new addition to Sydney’s restaurant scene can be enjoyed seven days per week, although on Mondays the restaurant doesn’t open until 5pm. On Tuesdays to Sundays, you can arrive from 12 noon. Open daily till late, you can even pop in and visit the dedicated evening dessert bar if you have a craving for something delicious and sweet halfway through the evening. With different seating areas, private and semi-private spaces and even a new dedicated function area, 12-Micron is suitable for individuals, couples, intimate parties and even large get-togethers ranging from corporate events to Weddings.
